There are inhabited barrier islands just offshore accessible from the mainland either by causeway or by boat, and these include Gasparilla, Palm, Don Pedro and Knight Islands and Manasota Key. The heart and soul of downtown Englewood is known by the locals as Olde Englewood and is centered around Historic Dearborn Street with its extensive selection of boutique style shops, galleries and restaurant dining experiences. Olde Englewood is in walking distance of Lemon Bay and the beaches on Manasota Key, and Englewood’s waterway systems of creeks and canals, many with Gulf access are a boater’s and fisherman’s dream.
